Daily commentary about China by TIME correspondents.

NoTube

A last word on the previous couple of posts. Readers in China will wonder at my technical skills as all they see where the embedded video is supposed to be is a blank patch. That's because of the youtube block by the China censors, which apparently may have been caused by the launch of a new Chinese version (www.tw.youtube.com, www.hkyoutube.com) for Taiwan and Hong Kong. As others have pointed out, launching in the middle of the Party Congress was not the smartest move in the world. For the record, Reporters Without Borders (here but forget it if you are behind the Great Firewall) thinks the block was sparked by the Party Congress and says it started on October 15th.
