MFA issues statement in support of China on Tibet situation

SINGAPORE : Singapore supports China's stand on Tibet.

In response to media queries on the situation in Tibet, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs says "Singapore supports the declared policy of the Chinese government to protect the lives and property of its citizens from violent demonstrators with minimum use of force."

MFA added that Singapore is "opposed to the politicisation of the Olympics".

Singapore notes Premier Wen Jiabao's comment that "China is prepared to hold dialogue with the Dalai Lama based on 'One China' and the renunciation of violence."

MFA also said Singapore is "relieved that the situation in Tibet is calming down". - CNA/de
