Adopting Earthquake Orphans II

We've written before about the rush of inquiries in China about adopting kids orphaned by the Wenchuan earthquake. For any of our readers personally interested in pursuing this, the China Daily has a story on a notice issued by the Sichuan provincial authorities outlining eligibility and procedures. Bottom line: relatives get precedence, understandably enough. Prospective overseas adopters should go through the regular procedures with the central government (the China Center of Adoption Affairs; not the world's most beloved body), then register with the Sichuan Civil Affairs Department. But with an estimated 1000 kids up for adoption (though they are still working on the exact number) and so much interest from within China, it sounds like chances for non-Chinese adopters would be pretty low.
