Daily commentary about China by TIME correspondents.

Cars, Bears and Satellites

There are a few stories on time.com today that may be of interest to China Blog readers: Bruce Crumley writes from Paris about China's growing role in the satellite launch business; Michael Schuman has a piece from Hong Kong about why the expectations of a quick economic recovery in China are mostly hype; and I've got a story on why Beijing's efforts to aid the domestic auto manufacturing industry are leaving Washington's Detroit rescue plan in the dust.

The quick economy recovery in China is not hype. It will happen. If you don't believe this, just read the stats that will surely come out from the Chinese government to prove it.

BTW, the US government should not rescue the big three. The US government should just let them fail, and in bankruptcy, the big three can get rid of all the unreasonable clauses in their union contracts. I know, this is union busting. But it needs to be done.

And US government should legislate that all pensions funds must be held in trust by a third party, and not the employer. And all pensions must be fully funded, with contribution from both employers and employee. Any medicare for pensioners by employers must be funded as part of the pension plan, through a third party trust.
