Dolphins, Pirates and Merchant Ships
So God --or at least mother nature--appears to have decided that China's maritime trade is important enough to merit personal intervention. According to this story from Xinhua, thousands of dolpins spontaneously decided to intevene and stop Somali pirates from attacking Chinese merchant vessels. Money sentence: "The pirates could only lament their littleness befor the vast number of dolphins." Indeed.
But perhaps it wasn't just mother nature helping out. This incident comes at the same time as a rare interview with the head of China's navy, Wu Shengli, who said that the service's objective was to develop new weapons and build news ships. Might that include remote controlled dolphins? It certainly includes an aircraft carrier, which official media have repetaedly said is in the offing. And lots of hi-tech submarines too, presumably. Those subs are probably the single thing that worries the U.S. Navy the most as was evidenced by the incident in which the USS Impeccable--basically a sub tacking vessel--had a clash with Chinese ships off Hainan recently. Like satellite downing missles and legions of hackers, submarines are a cheap and very effective way of nullifying America's huge advantages if it ever did come to a conflict. For a fictional but fairly believable scenario about one way this might play out, see Ghost War by New York Times reporter Alex Berenson.

---"Those subs are probably the single thing that worries the U.S. Navy the most"?
USA has more firepower than the whole world combined. If America started to worry, all others would have no single night to sleep. -

I agree with laohong. With all respect to my fellow Americans, I think many parts of the World don't feel worry and don't have any objection with America Military. Although we in the eastern and middle east part of the world don't always agree with America's Military actions...
We consistently have this same feeling that America (The government or some people in the Gov) always wants the rest of the world smaller, weaker, and obedient in Uncle Sam's sight.
So the government quickly feels uncomfortable and uneasy with other countries' advancements. Is it the right of every nation in the world to advance themselves including Military?
I know it's and endless debate, because someone might say that Military can be a threat to other nations and If you wait until there are proves that they use the military for evil purposes, it will be too late. If that's the case then how do we know that America (people in the Government) don't use their Military strength to abuse other countries and conduct evil purposes ? That's a reflective question I think...

The most way to stop privacy is a very simple.
There are enough naval ships from different countries to block any fishing boat from Somali to travel more than 100 miles from coastline. Any fishing boat with speedboat in tow should be boarded and detained. Any resistance should be met head on. At the same time, go after Somali living oversea that provide services such as supply of weapons and money laundering. That is the same way American deal with terrorists. -

I have no idea what laohong is smoking. China has the most powerful military of the world, not US. The PLA can beat the US troops anytime, anywhere. With the new satellite China just sent to survey the world, the US military has no place to hide. Even mother nature cooperates with the Chinese military. The mandate of heaven is obvious. And China sent the strongest naval task force to Indian Ocean and will surely get rid of all pirates in the area. China is the only country with enough naval vessels to do what sing666 says: block any fishing boat from Somali ... boarded and detained. The world is just waiting for China to crush those pirates.
As for the smaller and weaker nations of the world, the alternative is obvious: obedience to China is the key to wealth, security and prosperity. Grandpa Wen will look after you as long as you make China happy.
By the way, China has already stopped privacy in China. It is piracy around Somali and IP piracy in China that we are interested in for now.

Seesm you feel God-blessed that Americans can live on income from military industry which help World cop to bully the "smaller and weaker nations". Of course it is not USA but China which has bombed Vietnam, El Salvador, Nicuragua, Grenada, Lybia, Panama, Iraq, Bosnia, Sudan, Yugoslavia and Afghanistan killing millions of innocent civilians since WW2. Oh, how can I forget American embassy in Belgrad, bombed with stupid Chinese info? You sure know, without bombs, Chinese cannot live a single day. So it's enough reason for USA to "worry" about more rotten Chinese subs since America has only very few old ones as rotten as its subway in NYC, right?
Boy, you dont know how much I like to tickle your armpits and then wash my hands for a long 10 mimutes. -

"Oh, how can I forget American embassy in Belgrad, bombed with stupid Chinese info?"-laohong
The Chinese embassy was bombed because the Chinese were using it as a military re-broadcast station for the Yugoslav army, a violation of international law. Two days after Milosevics' HQ's were bombed, NATO signals-intelligence picked up military command signals coming from the Chinese embassy. Not knowing it was the Chinese embassy, the coordinates were put on a list of legitimate bombing targets.
When double-checking the target list, it was accidentally or intentionally overlooked.
A single bomb hit the signals/communication part of the embassy, killing three Chinese journalists/intelligence agents.
This is all documented in a joint article by British newspaper The Guardian and a Dutch newspaper.
So the Chinese government is, at least, partly responsible for the bombing of their own embassy. -

rickridge:
This is something new. Using tabloid as source of evidence is very laughable. Deliberately bombing a foreign embassy, in the eyes of international law, is murder one. It means whoever gave the order should be arrested for war crime. Are you saying that it is ok for US to murder and not Milosevic? There must be a loose screw in your brain. -

The Guardian and the Dutch paper Politiken are not tabloids.
They interviewed four NATO officers stationed in different parts of Europe.
Another article said the Chinese embassy was broadcasting to Arkan Raznatovic and his "Tigers", who were known for genocide.
