Hotel China Photos: Ooops
Reader Zhangshan gently points out that I didn't read down to the comments when I linked to the Danwei post about the series of staged hotel room photos. Apologies and thanks for the catch. Interesting to compare the two series. The Chinese are far more convincing, to me at least. Scarier.
Might be a bit over-thinking this one, Simon. As correctly identified in the comments on the Danwei post (as well as the Chinasmack blog), it's a Chinese interpretation of the work of US photographer Lyndon Wade. The Chinasmack post also includes a set of those photos: see here. I do agree that the Chinese series is more compelling, in a rather bizarrely fascinating way...

The Chinese set is definitely more violent. There's only one overtly violent picture in the original set, which is a guy pounding another guy's face with a fist. In the Chinese version, the fist becomes a hammer...ick! And of course, there's the bloody murder scene as well...double ick.

It`s OK. They are all Hans and they are supposed to do that to each other. It`s normal. It is only ick if Japanese were punching Hans.
