Urumqi: Han Chinese Revenge Mobs Appear
This is a very worrying development indeed. Story below from Xinhua, but Austin and other reporters have seen mobs of Chinese in the streets of Urumqi up to a thousand strong armed with staves and shovels, out for revenge. I've seen these sort of race riots before and at this point it is up to the security forces to lay down a shoot-on-sight curfew. Will they shoot fellow Han? If they don't restore order very soon it will get very ugly indeed.
Fresh chaos erupt in Urumqi
Chaos were seen in a number of places in Urumqi Tuesday afternoon, nearly two days after the deadly violence.
Many people were gathering or running in panic at the Urumqi South Railway Station, Changjiang Road, Yangzijiang Road and some other places at around 1 p.m..
Roadside shops were shut down.
Residents of some community compounds are holding wood and iron clubs for self-defence.
"We will not hide up anymore. We will fight back if they (the rioters) come," said an unnamed man standing in front of a building in Shihezi.
Crowds of people rushed in the municipal people's hospital in downtown Urumqi to take shelter. Many nurses were trying to call their relatives by cell phones to ensure they are safe.
People who were gathering at Hetian Street for defence threw stones at Xinhua reporters before knowing their identity.

I just saw this news as well, and you can bet it got an 'oh shit' out of me. This is BAD news. Bad, bad news. Quick translation of chinabriefing's post: "Reuters reports that Han and Uighurs are throwing stones at each other. A group of Han are loudly shouting, 'Attack the Uighurs!' A Han said, 'Earlier, they were attacking us. Now, it's our turn to attack them.'" Bad, bad, bad news. Security needs to lay down a harsh total curfew, just like Simon said.

"Will they shoot fellow Han?" What a stupid question! Had the PLA never shoot Hans?

Yes, with all due respect, I have to agree with CIC there...

Are you hosting a quiz show? to which telephone number should audience send their answers in text message form?
Are you watching a movie and having some fun by saying "Will they shoot fellow Han?" YOU REALLY SUCKS!
>If they don't restore order very soon it will get very ugly indeed.
What? "restore order" [by shooting]? ARE YOU PROPOSING A MASSACRE? ARE YOU A HUMAN BEING?

In a Telegraph report filed by Peter Foster, it was said that the call for revenge was triggered by a rumour that ethnic Uighurs had broken into Urumqi's hospitals and killed several patients.
According to Guardian, "In an effort to quell the unrest, the Xinjiang regional government imposed an overnight curfew."

Watch this video. Make sure you are over 18 and not eating while viewing the tape.
At 4:10, body lying on the ground with throat cut.
At 4:12 body lying on the ground with back of head smashed.
At 5:03-5:13 bodies with blood all over.
How can you call this peaceful protest?
I think NED and JS get their wishes.-

Here we see Mr elegent's prejudice again, when he take about the incident, it is a violent suppression of protest. When he mentions the angry Han Chinese protest which is a peaceful demonstration hardly injures anyone; they are mobs which the word he very reluctant to call the Uighur and Tibetan rioter mobs.
It could be very ugly indeed and this is possibly someone's best wishes. What a typical western journalist reporting news in China.

數百名漢族示威者手持刀、棍、鐵管、鐵鏟、鋤頭等武器。路透社和美聯社指,這大批漢人數以百計,但法新社表示有數以千計。
I concede that the CCP is right this time around. Murderous Chinese mobs need to be controlled - just look at those huge knives and saws they're bringing on the streets to kill for 'self-defence'. Self defence conscious people don't go out on the streets. The PLA must clamp down on these mobsters. Please - never ever give them democracy. And they are singing the national anthem and talking about patriotism! I wonder if bylooker and 2morrow and the other fenqing are among those butchers

# conscienceinchina Says:
Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at 5:12 am"Will they shoot fellow Han?" What a stupid question! Had the PLA never shoot Hans?
concienceinchina is such an ignoramus I don't know why s/he bother to comment in this forum. Has s/he ever heard of Tienanmen Square massacre? Are those not Han students? The Chinese government will shoot anyone who is threatening national unity and political stability, Han or not.
-

to all the fenqing on this forum - you win. you were right all along. i concede defeat. i don't want these han chinese to ever come close to me. i don't want to die. let the world know that china can't ever have democracy. they can't ever be given freedom, not even a little bit. if they are, they will just murder everyone. they need to be tightly controlled; execute them or throw them into concentration camps if they mob. i haven't been mindful enough of history; for 5000 years, china has been ruled by mobs. keep them away from us please! i hope the PLA can truly catch all these murderers and dump them into laogai. poor Uighers, I am sorry to ever have suggested china is suited for democracy.

@donriver: I thought conscienceinchina had made exactly the same point as you're making. So why are you calling him/er ignoramus?
@chinabriefing: "Self defence conscious people don't go out on the streets. " I have an impression that you're being tougue in cheek here. But still, I'd like to voice my disagreement. They will if they perceive that the police and government authorities have failed to protect them. That's usually why people resort to vigilantism for justice. -

Mr Elegant blogs and reports here is not necessary presenting stories to convince the majority of Chinese readers but to feed his prejudiced American fellows or the idiot troll twins_ conscienceinchina and JohnSmith -

"有漢人說:「之前是他們攻擊我們,現在輪到我們攻擊他們。」"
The ultimate demonstration of pure Han culture. Violence is the only response they know.

johnsmith9876 you talk so much b.s in this forum why don't you tell everyone how many Native Indians were killed and driven out from U.S.A and Canada?
How many aboriginals did the Australian killed?
Do you live in the U.S.A? Canada? Australia? Who's land do you think your house is built on? You do know that's not your land?
Your comments were very stupid and illogical. Why don't you keep your lowly educated mouth shut before you embarass us all.

"Please tell me whether these Uighers are civilized or not."
I have no idea whether the Uighurs are civilized or not. But whether the Hans are civilized is completely demonstrated by "有漢人說:「之前是他們攻擊我們,現在輪到我們攻擊他們。」" And that's only after the well armed PLA and Chinese Armed Police showed up en mass.
And since bylooker's name calling of the Cultural Revolution style is good display of his Han civility too.

I personally are not worried. There is nothing new here. Hans have been killing Uighurs for centuries, and the Uighurs are still here. And I am not worrying for the Hans either. These Hans don't want human rights and freedom. And that include the right to survival and freedom from fear. Hans are used to these kind of treatment in the hands of CCP for decades. It is just getting the same treatment from a different source. So Hans are no worst off.
-
19
Hmm.. The Huis are being attacked by the Hans too. May be the Uighurs and Huis will unite this time ?

donriver, excuse me, after I sent this comment you cited I found I had made a grammar error, and I had no time to correct it.
I actually mean "Hadn't the PLA shot Han Chinese?"

Finally
Some westerners speak truth rather than someone here playing mouthpiece service for World Uyghur Congress.Peter is an English teacher living in Urumqi with his Chinese wife. They were out shopping on Sunday when the violence started.
The protesters' route was blocked by the police, not in a menacing way, just as if to make it clear that they could go no further. The protesters stopped about 30m away for a few minutes, and then without warning some of them came forward and started throwing rocks at the police.
The police tolerated this for maybe a couple of minutes, and when it became clear the throwing of stones wouldn't stop, they charged.
I have to say that the police dealt with the matter the same way our own riot police would. They were not excessively violent, nor did they attack unprovoked.
It was scary to watch all this kick off so close to where we were. Having managed to read your reports via my mobile phone (using services that are not blocked) I am amused that these overseas Chinese are trying to make political capital out of this, when, from what I witnessed, it was the protesters who brought this on themselves by attacking the police. Or maybe this was what they wanted all along? -

C.A.Yeung - viligantes don't go around in mobs with deadly knives in their hands shouting for, wait for it - revenge and ethnic cleansing. These aren't vigilantes. These are mob murderers. And there are some of them among us here on the China blog who already have the mens rea for murder. Perhaps it isn't the CCP that has been doing the ethnic cleansing in Xinjiang, in Tibet and in other places. It's these people - sub-humans who call for vengeance by the sword and reduce the "enemy" to 'dog' and non-human descriptions so easily. Take note that this isn't even a personal grievance. This isn't racism. This is called the attempted genocide. Chinese lives are cheap and it's not because they are many but because they are barbarous and animal-like; the passions of the fenqing here aren't a derivative of nationalism but of collective hatred and evilness.

"犯强汉者,虽远必诛"
The communists have "犯"ed you and killed your elderships for more than 60 years after they were "loafing on the air of Europe", why you don't "诛" them immediately?

"bylooker Says: If this Chinese government cannot punish the Uigher rioters who killed 100s Han Chinese. I pray hardliners will take power and smash all who killed my brothers and sisters.Blood needs to be paid back by blood!!"
The sad epitome of the degeneration and downfall of a fenqing, capable of slight rational discussion, into a murderous, blood-thirsty and plainly evil barbarian. I plead that Her Majesty Government's arrest this man before he commits murder or partakes in any act of genocide or racial persecution. This man is dangerous. If Western-educated Chinese can fall so low, what more can be said of those within China receiving daily intakes of CCP brainwashing.

chinabriefing:
"If Western-educated Chinese can fall so low...."What makes you believe the western-educated ones so superior? Isn't Simon Elegent western-educated?
Simon Elegent has tried to cover anything happened in Tibet in his articles. Yet, when so many times, he was asked why he would not mentioned anything about the dark and bloody regime of Dalai Lama before CCP's take-over of Tibet. Guess what, he simply turn a blind eye to this question. Because he knows that if he really did that, it would fundamentally change the western edition of Tibetian issues, in which paints DL as a Jesus, instead of his real face as a brutal once serf owner. But you know what, that does not means Simon Elegent could not exist for some goodness of this world. I already took him as a negative example to convinced the people, who used to believe western media as the 100% neutral and objective sources for information.
