Daily commentary about China by TIME correspondents.

Farewell!

We've had a good run, but alas, the China Blog is indeed shutting down. Come visit us elsewhere on Time.com. You'll find most of our stories on the World and Magazine pages, ie the current issue of Time Asia includes the China 60th anniversary cover package. And if you want to respond to any of our magazine stories, send your letters to asialetters@timeasia.com. Until next time!

Swept away by China Tsunami. Good luck!

    Dear Miss Liu,

Although this blog is shutting down, I hope you have more chances in the future to travel in China, know better about China, where your ancestors came from. No matter in China, US, Malaysia or anywhere in the world, I hope you can talk more to ordinary Chinese people, especially young Chinese students, to know their true feeling and thoughts. This may help your career as a journalist.

I wish you success in your career and good luck in your life.

By the way, I just read the cover story on latest Time: China's 60th Birthday: The Road to Prosperity By David Shambaugh. It's a good article. The author really knows about China.

    Dear Ling Woo,

Why is the China blog shutting down? Surely operating expenses are negligible?

  • 4

Did you know Chinese ancestors came from Africa?

    The China Blog:

I came back here after a months' absence, or exactly, your block. Out of my mind, what I see is your scramming, quite ironic! Unfortunately, your compromise of censoring me and things like that could not escape from the fate---your bending knees were not enough to the CCP,who is still going on banning you in China. "The China Blog" can not be seen by Chinese, so any reason to last any more?

I have many reasons to gloat, but I don't. I think even I will somewhat yearn, not for your writing, but the wonderful remarks written by a handful of geniuses.

@ "China Briefing" - your position on this site has been totally to deflect attention away and ridicule the actual China Briefing website, which is based at
http://www.china-briefing.com, as you well know. This sad announcement means it's now "time" to put the records straight.

For those of you reading Time, I'd recommend viewing China Briefing as a free blog alternative - check out their daily Business, Law & Tax news on the news section at http://www.china-briefing.com/news.

For what it's worth, I know that Liam rates it, and they're celebrating their tenth year of news from on the ground in China this year.

Hopefully that won't cue the usual China blog wars - all you need to do is click the links and just see for yourselves. Life goes on I guess....

..and socially responsible too. This recommendation (to show I'm not totally out there in my views about them) from another source, the China CSR blog Crossroads: http://china-crossroads.com/2009/09/19/deducting-charitable-donations-from-chinese-tax/

    Good work guys

Didn't you know the word China belongs to the Chinese people? Obviously you are white and you are unqualified to descrate China by using it in your capitalist endeavors to rip off the Great Chinese People. In fact, as your country continues to die under our debt, you should also forfeit the right to use United States. Your website doesn't even include a single link to our Hero, Mao Zedong. What a revisionist, anti-China, anti-Communist pile of trash.

My BF and I are relocating in December and we both want to have a memorable farewell party for friends and family. All ideas welcome.
